Alpina made many refinements to the interior of the Z4, including a hand-stitched steering wheel, based on the pre-facelift sports steering wheel. The steering wheel features an Alpina emblem on the center hub and stitched diagnoal rhombs in the classic Alpina colours blue and green. Although the Alpina steering wheel is beautifully detailed, it feels skinny. The Alpina leather also wears out quickly.
With the launch of the Z4M, BMW introduced a new and dramatically shaped sports steering that was available as standard equipment on the Z4M and could be optionally specified on regular Z4s. The M-sports steering wheel provides a strong rim profile and thumb contours for secure grip and precise handling at all times. The wheel is covered in supple leather with a nice matte finish. The meaty feel and stunning design makes it one of the best steering wheels ever made. This mod should be top priority for any Z4 owner with a standard or first generation sports steering wheel.
The M-sports steering wheel is available with black or BMW M-coloured stitching. The black stitching blends in nicely with the Alpina blue and green stitching of the interior panels in the Roadster S. Along with the steering wheel I also gained steering wheel controls for the audio system.
