Corona rings or angel eyes, as they are largely known, have become a BMW identifier since the launch of the E39 5-series facelift in 2001. As of 2007, the feature was available on all BMW models except the Z4. The facelifted Z4 featured a dimly lit single ring next to the low beam, but no double rings like the other BMW models. Eric Sin at Tekarbon mastered the fine art of disassembling the headlight housing and retrofitting CCFL angel eyes. The headlights were shipped to Los Angeles to have the modification performed. I also opted for an amber delete and black repainted housings. I never liked the silver coloured headlight housings as they were highly contrasting with the body colour.
The CCFL rings have a neutral colour tempature that closely resembles the colour temperature of the xenon lights, similar to the angel eyes used on the 5 GT. The CCFLs are very bright and have excellent visibility in daylight.
